I’m always extremely eager to try anything new from Philip Kingsley as they are such a reliable and consistent brand – I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything from them that I haven’t loved and they feature heavily in my haircare routine. The Philip Kingsley Vitamin C Jelly Treatment is a new launch from the brand, and I was particularly excited to try this as my all-time favourite haircare product is the iconic Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, which falls into the same pre-shampoo category as the newest arrival.
The Philip Kingsley Vitamin C Jelly Treatment is a mask designed to treat both the scalp and the hair, providing a detoxifying deep cleanse. The box comes with four sachets of product and a mixing bottle with a guide line. You use the product by emptying the sachet into the bottle, topping up with water to the fill line, then putting the top back on and giving it a rigorous shake until it starts to firm up. After a few moments, it’ll become less liquid and more jelly like. You don’t have to use it immediately, but the longer you leave it, the firmer it becomes.
The Philip Kingsley Vitamin C Jelly Treatment is not a rival to Elasticizer as it provides a completely different treatment; it’s designed to remove build-up and freshen up the hair, so it’s particularly suited to those who use a lot of products, plus I think it would be a good treatment to use before a colour too. It’s designed to brighten, reduce weight and generally deep clean, whereas Elasticizer is all about the moisture and repair. You could definitely use them in harmony with each other, maybe every other wash, but I don’t think you’d want to use them at the same time.
I’m not a huge fan of sachets as I find them a bit clumsy to use, plus I hate having my usage limited – there are four sachets so you know you only get four uses from each box, which works out at £7 a treatment. Not exactly decadent, but not really budget-friendly either. Having said that, Philip Kingsley is a brand aimed at the higher end of the price spectrum, so I would expect it to sit around that price point.
In conclusion, the Philip Kingsley Vitamin C Jelly Treatment is a great option for anyone who uses lots of products or colours their hair regularly. I would say it’s a great choice for swimmers too. Hair will feel noticeably cleaner and look shinier after use, the effects of which will last a couple of washes. For me and my hair type, I would use this around once a month.
