I’m sure most would agree that Smashbox is most famous for its impressive Photo Finish Primer line, a collection of which they add to regularly and consequently it’s pretty vast! Every primer need you can think of is taken care of, from pore minimising to colour correcting to blemish controlling, there’s a primer for everything. I have quite a few in my collection, but I realised recently that there are three I continually reach for, so I thought I’d share them with you.
The Photo Finish Luminizing Foundation Primer was a total godsend during the first few months of my pregnancy when my skin decided to completely dry out to the point where the skin on my nose actually cracked, which is as fun as it sounds. It was dull, grey and extremely dry so it needed a lot of moisture, but most importantly it needed a radiance boost which is exactly what this primer provided. It warms and brightens the skin making it a lovely product to use under light foundations for added radiance. If you struggle with dull skin then this is the one for you. It’s £25 here – link.
Second on my list is the “Adust” version of the Colour Correcting Primer which is a green primer that’s great at toning down redness. Don’t be put off by the lurid shade as it doesn’t turn your skin green, it just reduces the vibrancy of anything red such as spots and post-acne scars as well as generally ruddiness, making all of those issues sit better under foundation. This one is a great all-rounder for generally reducing redness and is £25 here – link.
My current most reached for of the bunch is the Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer which is just phenomenal for dehydrated skin, and as it’s oil-free it shouldn’t upset any skin types. It’s a beautifully hydrating gel that evens out flakiness and general dryness, so if your skin is prone to anything that’s associated with dry skin problems then you are going to love this. I use this as a general base before using a colour correcting primer over the top on my acne scarring. It’s £28 here – link.
Smashbox primers aren’t the cheapest, but they are some of the very best available as they really do work at providing a good base for make-up to adhere to whilst correcting various issues. Smashbox also do quite a few of their primers in a mini versions if you don’t want to commit to full-sized and these are £12.50 a go. There’s also a rather fab Travel Primer Trio set for £25 here – link – that includes the Luminizing and Hydrating primers as mentioned above, alongside the original Photo Finish primer.
