The whole cervical drama a few months ago really shook me up and made me realise how important it is for me to be around for Teddy as long as possible so I can nag him and look down on his girlfriends. When I realised I was preggers with Teddy, I quit smoking and drinking; I’m still fag-free (630 days now, not that I’m counting) and I’ve had 2 drinks since having Teddy over a year ago, so in that regard I’m much healthier. However, being a single mum is pretty exhausting and it’s quite easy to take shortcuts when it comes to eating and finding energy. Firstly, for quite some time I’ve relied on convenience food and I’ve consumed around 3 cans of coke a 3 cups of coffee a day for the caffeine. In the past few weeks, I’ve started making a very conscious effort to eat healthily and just generally try and make healthier choices, however, I lack the time to do anything fancy. Therefore, I’m going to share with you things I’ve found work for me at improving my diet and health whilst also being easy to integrate into my life – no fussy vegetable chopping here! I’m calling the series “Health Hacks” and I’m hoping they’ll be of use to anyone who wants to try and be a bit healthier with as little effort as possible.
It’s actually going really well and I’m doing everything I can to make healthier decisions from Monday to Friday whilst relaxing on Saturday and Sunday and eating what I like. Interestingly, you think this would result in some serious weekend binging but that hasn’t happened at all, and instead I’m even making healthier choices with my less virtuous food. I’ve cut my Coke consumption right down to 3 cans a week, but I’m not giving up cake – because cake – and I’m not giving up coffee – because baby. I’m focusing more on putting good things in my body rather than getting too obsessive about not eating bad things. I don’t like the idea of depriving myself and I don’t feel it’s a long-term answer to being healthy. I’m mainly interested in trying to get my five-a-day and seeing what other goodies I can incorporate in my diet. I’ll be sharing with you an Omega Oil I’ve been enjoying as well as the juices I’ve been consuming daily, both of which have made a big difference and after just a short time I genuinely feel healthier already. More soon – keep your eyes peeled for posts that start with “Health Hacks” if you think you’ll find it interesting!
