Bonchoix is a very new-to-the-market service that offers a variety of ways to shop for discounted make-up. They focus on mostly big brands such as Cargo Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Bourjois and OPI, and they offer either single items at a discount, or build-your-own beauty boxes which provide a further discount, so the more you shop, the more you save.
I’ll mention straight away that the discounts aren’t huge, and that paired with the fact that the selection isn’t huge either is likely to put a lot of people off, as most beauty shoppers are pretty savvy and know what they want, but can be swayed by a decent discount, so at this stage I would say that those who arrive at the site will likely be searching for something very specific as I’m not sure the discount is enough to entice those who are browsing for a bargain. Having said that, the range on offer is growing very quickly, and whilst I love the idea of building a personalised beauty box, I see them mostly developing as a discount beauty shop along the lines of All Beauty.
The one huge selling point they have at this stage is their selection of Cargo Cosmetics, a brand that has all but disappeared from the UK market, which is a real shame as it’s a fantastic colour brand that I’ve always really liked – I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything from them that I didn’t immediately love; just look at that palette, those blush shades and that pink lipstick! I was sent a voucher for £75 to spend on the Bonchoix site and build my box, which I filled full of Cargo products and these are what I went for: Around the World Eyeshadow Palette, Powder Blushers in Big Easy and Tonga, Water Resistant Eye Pencil in Eggplant, OneBase Concealer/Foundation in Light, Jet Lag Concealer in Light and Lipstick in Baby Pink. That’s seven full-sized, luxury products including a gorgeous palette containing 12 shades fore £75. They have a huge range of Cargo at the moment so if you’re a Cargo fan, this is where to go – I like that you can buy single items and if you end up finding five or more that you like, you can create a box.
