Revlon Photoready Candid Collection

It’s been absolutely ages since I featured anything from Revlon, which is a real shame as they’re a brand that are so good at coming-up with accessible and budget-friendly beauty innovations, with some very cool launches that somehow, inexplicably pass me by.  Thankfully, I was sent the newly launched, Photoready Candid collection, which is an exciting trio of base products that I’m excited to share with you.  I’ve got lots of info to share, so I’ll jump straight in!

Kicking-off with the first of the three, the Revlon Photoready Candid Natural Finish Anti-Pollution Foundation, which is available in 31 shades, and is designed to provide a medium coverage, even out skin tone and contains antioxidants and moisturising ingredients (although I can’t seem to find out what they are!) to provide skincare benefits alongside the make-up.

I found this foundation buildable and easy to work with.  I found it best to apply it in thin layers, building up the coverage in areas that needed it, and I preferred a sponge to a brush, although the difference was minimal.  As someone who has skin that can look very dry, I wouldn’t say I found this to feel especially moisturising, but it certainly didn’t exacerbate any of my dry areas and it actually left my skin looking really balanced; not too shiny, not too matte.  The shade range is fantastic with a good mix of shades across all spectrums of cool, neutral and warm – my shade, 120, is the palest neutral shade available and a really good fit for me.

The Revlon Photoready Candid Antioxidant Concealer is available in four shades: Banana – yellow toned fair; Vanilla – neutral fair; Sand – medium neutral and Cafe – slightly deeper shade that I would say leans cool, but I’m basing that on swatches so it’s tricky to tell.  This concealer is infused with caffeine to perk up the eye area.

Obviously this is a concealer aimed at the under eye area, which is presumably why the shade range is limited – it’s great that there’s a yellow-toned number for counteracting blueness under the eyes.  I went for the Vanilla shade hoping I could use it as more of a multi-use concealer, and thankfully my gamble paid off! The Revlon Photoready Candid Antioxidant Concealer comes with a really well-designed doe-foot applicator that gives just the right amount of product.

If you’ve read my May Favourites (here it is) then you’ll know that I absolutely love this concealer, and have been using it pretty religiously since it arrived.  I find it really good for all elements of concealing, and particularly good for patches of redness and pigmentation.  It probably wouldn’t be the best thing for an angry/dry spot, but I think everything else is good to go, and I really like it under the eyes for softening the blue tones (knackered at the moment, so this has its work cut out!) and just making it all look a little more naturally healthy.  I’m definitely a fan!

The final product in the range is the Revlon Candid Anti-Pollution Setting Powder, which comes in 1 shade that I’m assuming is translucent.  This is designed to be non-drying, providing an airbrushed finish, and presumably also contains antioxidants, although that isn’t as widely mentioned for the powder as it is for the other two products.  I love the idea that using all three of these products together is like layering antioxidants on your skin.

I wasn’t expecting to like this as I’m not big on powders, but I really like the way this looks and feels on the skin.  It’s instantly mattifying, but it doesn’t dull the glow, nor does it make skin look dry and cakey – a real bugbear for me with powders.  It buffs nicely into the skin, definitely makes a difference to the longevity of make-up and it plays well with cream products too.  I also really like the lift out lid in the packaging that means you can safely travel with this, without fear of it all decanting into the lid.

I’ve found myself pleasantly surprised by the Revlon Photoready Candid range, especially since I think it’s a collection aimed at younger skin.  Of course my standout product is the concealer, but all three products are really good and the powder was a big surprise!
