I’ve been dying to rave about my Readly app as I think it’s such a great idea, so enjoy my rave! Readly is basically a downloadable reader that gives you unlimited access to a HUGE array of magazines that cover loads of different genres, plus they’ve recently added a couple of papers too. I absolutely love to tuck into a magazine when I have a few spare mins; I tend to associate them with time to relax, although the Readly app has opened me up to so many new ideas and I am totally obsessed.
As you’d expect, you get the expected magazines such as women’s mags, gossip mags, monthlies and the various levels of fashion mags such as Vogue, but you also get access to back issues of all of these mags – I don’t know if it’s the same for all of the back issues but I’ve just checked Vogue and it appears to go back a year.
I love having access to the traditional mags, but where the Readly app really shines is with the guide magazines you can access; I used to love perusing the aisles at WH Smith and checking out all the various guides and wondering what new hobby I should partake in, and on the Readly app you have access to so many of these guides! From sewing and knitting, to baking, Photoshop, photography, all kinds of technology and everything in between – it’s truly baffling how much is available.
You also have access to more academic magazines such as Science Focus, the How it Works series, plus loads of history and space specials – I’m genuinely not doing the availability justice, so it’s well worth having a little nose around the site and seeing what’s available as there really is something for everyone. You can search for individual publications or browse by category, and after a while, the app starts getting to know what you like and makes suggestions accordingly. You can also build your own library of magazines and receive alerts when new issues of your favourites arrive.
You can also share you subscription with your family, so my mum has her own profile – I’m not sure what the limit is on how many people you can share it with, but I understand you’re limited to five devices in total, so presuming that includes family profiles. I have an app on my iPad and my phone and both apps update, so you can move from one device to another. The family profiles mean you get your own recommendations and everything stays personal to you within your profile.
One thing I have been doing during lockdown is baking. Lots and lots of baking. I really enjoy it and having a huge wealth of baking guides on the app has made a massive difference and given me lots of inspiration. I found Readly just at the start of lockdown and it’s one of my best finds for a while.
Full access to the Readly app is £7.99 a month, which again, I think it’s just brilliantly priced; if you buy one magazine a week then you’ll likely save money. The link below is a referral link which gives you one month free, and if you sign up I get one month free too.
Check out the Readly app here – link.
This is a cool way of consuming content that interests you, especially for people who used to read magazines! I used to be obsessed with magazines as a kid. Great post xx
