Before I start the review, today is Daddy Geek’s birthday where he turns the big nine zero!! Not really, it is his birthday but he isn’t quite 90 yet. Daddy Geek has started blogging; he’s still got a long way to go (bless ‘im) with his design and direction, but he’s made a great start so feel free to say hello! A little while ago I attended a press event for Muji’s new Large Aroma Diffuser, and included in the goody bag was this Jasmine and Black Olive Tin Candle*.
Muji’s candles have quite the reputation for having unbelievably strong scents that can literally penetrate a room the moment you lift the lid and that is definitely the case with this variant too.
When I saw the scent choice for this candle, I was happy to see the inclusion of Jasmine and not so happy about the Black Olive. This is mainly because I’m not really a fan of olives in general so I was a bit unsure about how this inclusion would impact the scent.
Thankfully it’s a really good blend and the olive softens the Jasmine; sometimes Jasmine – especially in concentrated amounts – can result in quite a clinical scent that I personally don’t mind, but it can be quite overpowering.
To start with, you don’t even need to light the candle as the aroma is really that strong, but once lit and after a few moments it settles down into what I’d deem a medium level of air penetration; it doesn’t leave you gasping for air, but it’s strong enough to create a firm aroma that you’re very aware of. Medium is my perfect level so I’m more than happy with that.
This is my first Muji candle and considering it’s priced at a very purse-friendly £3.50 I can’t imagine this will be my last. I love the sound of some of the other scents (Japanese Pear sounds especially good) so if I pick up some more then I’ll let you know how I get on.
