Now winter is finally upon us, I find one of the first things to dry out other than my lips, are my hands. I need a hand cream that is incredibly nourishing, yet won’t leave a residue and I struggle to find something that achieves both. However, I have a few favourites so I thought I’d put together a list and here it is:
1. Clinique Deep Comfort Hand and Cuticle Cream
I got a decent sized sample in one of the Bonus Time promotions and I was really impressed. It’s got a bit of an odd texture; it’s kind of like a thick gel (if you’ve used Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel then it’s kind of similar to that) but it sinks in fairly quickly and moisturises really well.
2. Neutrogena Concentrated Unscented Hand Cream
If you like to use a hand cream but don’t like it’s scent to interfere with your perfume then this is a really good choice. It doesn’t absorb as quickly as I’d like, but it really does sooth cracked hands (and feet!) and feels like a really intensive boost of moisturisation (it’s a word…).
3. Savar Advanced Hand Repair
This is the one I use the most as I like the way it smells and feels. It absorbs quickly, has a light fragrance that doesn’t overpower and comes in a travel friendly bottle. This is a great hand cream if you like to use something regularly to keep your hands constantly supple, as it really does soak in within seconds.
4. Dove Intensive Nourishment Hand Cream
Using this is a great way to finish off your evening skin care regime. It doesn’t soak in particularly quickly, but it does provide a really deep hit of moisture to your hands, so you’ll wake up with much smoother and softer hands. The fact that it’s incredibly cheap means that you can use a lot of this knowing that it won’t be too expensive to replace.
5. Eucerin Dry Skin Intensive Hand Cream
This is a cream for those of you who suffer from intensely dry hands. It doesn’t actually feel that nourishing on application (it feels moisturising, but not as rich as you’d expect an intensive hand cream to feel) but it obviously does something right as it really does make a huge difference if your skin is prone to cracking and severe dryness. It’s another one that isn’t too expensive so worth looking into if your dry hands have gone beyond an annoyance and instead become painful; it makes a really quick impact and soothes effectively.
I do love the Neutrogena one, and it’s so reasonably priced too. Dove I find most of their products greasy, although I am yet to try this.
My ultimate favourite is L’Occitane’s shea hand cream. Smells gorgeous and works a treat but is pricey.
Hi Zee,
I think I received a sample of that L’Occitane one a while back; I remember thinking it was a really great cream but very greasy! Do you find it sinks in quickly?
Thanks for your comment 🙂 xx
I love Liz Earle’s Hand Repair, it is expensive compared to the High Street but you don’t need a lot and it leaves a matt finish on tour skin. The best budget cream I’ve come across is Autralian Organics which you can get from John Lewis. It’s about £4.50 for 200ml and it’s a light lotion that sinks in really quickly.
