Top Five Affordable Foundations
With any makeup look, it all starts with the base and a good base is essential but that doesn’t mean it needs to be pricey. Here I’ve chosen my favourite 5 foundations that can be bought on a budget but still give a great look, whatever you’re going for.
e.l.f Flawless Finish Foundation £6.75
If you’ve bought from e.l.f before you’ll know they’re famous for great quality products at really affordable prices, as well as having regular offers of up to 50%. This foundation comes in a really good quality bottle with a handy pump dispenser. It’s a lightweight, medium coverage giving a semi-matte finish and contains SPF15, and I love it for really evening out uneven skin tones and hiding redness. It’s not great over blemishes so a concealer is needed and it isn’t the most long lasting out of the bunch, but I really do love the coverage it gives me. This comes in 6 shades and I think they lean towards the darker end of the spectrum but I’m super pale and porcelain works nicely on me.
Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation £8.99
This is one of my favourite formula out of the bunch, as it’s such a lovely fresh and light base with great coverage and is easily buildable to achieve any level of coverage you’d like, plus the ivory colour suits my skintone perfectly, however it’s one downside is that it doesn’t come with a pump, so application can get a bit messy! There are 10 shades to suit each skintone and I find it’s a really good range, especially with a powder to match each as well. This is really long lasting and for the money this compares well to much higher end foundations.
L’Oreal Infallible Foundation £12.29
I have super pale skin, which is great sometimes as I know if I just pick the lightest foundation in any range it’ll probably suit me. However, in the depths of winter I usually find I’m so pale I don’t match any foundations, which is when I went on the hunt for the lightest one I could find and came up with this in Porcelain. It’s a lovely foundation that wears so well and doesn’t crease or budge at all, and is again really buildable, with 2 coats completely covering all blemishes without the need for concealer. It has 7 shades in the range but they do seem to cater more for the paler end of the spectrum. It claims to be wearable for 16 hours and while that’s probably a bold claim I would say it lasts the longest out of this bunch of foundations.
Bourjois Happy Light Foundation £11.99
This is Bourjois’s latest offering in way of foundations and it’s a good one! It’s a really light and luminous finish, while still giving great coverage. It’s the most lightweight out of the bunch and really lets your skin shine through, but also tones down any redness and hides blemishes enough to give me the confidence to wear it all day, whereas I don’t feel able to do that with something like a tinted moisturiser. I love the glow this gives me, and this would probably be my favourite foundation if it wasn’t for the shade range, which oddly don’t match the shades in other Bourjois foundations. The lightest shade here is 50 but for me it’s a little dark so I’ll be saving this for summer and probably using this every day.
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation £9.99
This is my favourite of the bunch, and the one I reach for on most days. I’ve tried the Healhy Mix Serum and some people love it, but for me I find it just doesn’t give enough coverage or last long enough, whereas this does both. It’s a great price at under a tenner, and claims to have a vitamin-rich formula too for boosting skin and giving an anti-fatigue result. It evens out skintone perfectly and is a medium but buildable coverage. Again, this claims to last 16 hours although I think that’s a bit bold and I wouldn’t say this lasts anywhere near this long but it will last well for a full day at work. With around 8 shades this tends to cover all bases and shade 50 is perfect for me in winter with me switching to 51 in the summer. It’s the only foundation that I always keep in my collection in 2 shades, and bearing in mind my pretty strong cosmetic addiction, this is a pretty big deal!
