I’ve talked quite a bit about L’Oreal’s new Rouge Caresse lipsticks, and I’ve also swatched the pinks in the range here and the reds in the range here.
I didn’t get on too well with the Lovely Rose shade I purchased recently (full review here), mainly because the shade was lighter than I usually go for and didn’t work too well with my overly red lips. Thankfully, Aphrodite Scarlet was a much better fit.
Aphrodite Scarlet is a great red for cool-skinned, pale girls like me. It’s just the right side of blue with a lovely pink tone to it, meaning it doesn’t wash me out but instead looks like a bright red that I can get away with.
On the lips, it’s a strong pop of multi-dimensional colour that shimmers slightly and, depending on the light, can look quite pink too. For some reason, it looks quite orangey in the stick, but this thankfully doesn’t show once applied.
As expected with a creamy texture lipstick, the wear on this isn’t great, but it fades well and evenly which is particularly good for a shade like this as reds are notoriously nasty at fading, often leaving the wearer with a stark, red rim around the lips.
As an everyday bright, glossy red, this is a great buy for me and a welcome addition to my collection.
Available at all L’Oreal stands priced at £7.99.
