Following on from yesterdays post which showed swatches of all the shades in the Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick range, here’s a post sharing my thoughts and review on two of the shades, Matte Petal and Matte Magenta. It’s been a while since I’ve developed such an obsession with a particular product, but I seriously cannot get enough of these lipsticks which is why I picked up Matte Mandarin for myself last week, so expect a post on that soon too…then I promise to try and shut up about them!
For those unfamiliar, the Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipsticks are a new range of 8 shades of lipstick with an extremely comfortable and creamy consistency with a matte finish. The colour range is just fabulous with several shades of pink, a couple of muted nudes as well as some berry shades too, so there’s a shade for everyone. I love a bright lip with very little else on the face as I think it’s a really easy yet polished look; just a bit of a base and a wipe of mascara and you’re done.
The two shades I was sent are Matte Petal and Matte Magenta. When the range launched I was asked what shades I’d like to try and considering how many pinks there are it was quite frankly like Sophie’s Choice. Okay not really, but it was pretty serious…Matte Petal is a very easy-going, gentle pink shade that works in the look I mentioned above, but as it’s so muted it also works with a heavier eye for evening looks too. It’s a very versatile shade that’s quite warm so it should suit most skin tones and I don’t think will drain anyone.
Matte Magenta is my favourite of the two as it’s a very bright, dark fuchsia shade that’s very blue and consequently very flattering on me and great if you’re a coffee/coke drinker! Recently I’ve been wearing this as a statement lip; it’s actually quite a harsh colour that I don’t think would work too well with a lot of make-up, but I’ve been embracing the harshness by pulling hair back into a tight ponytail and going with it! I kind of think of it as an almost 80’s power dressing kind of shade; it isn’t particularly feminine (although I’m sure it could be in the right hands) but it’s vivid, fun and really lovely to wear.
As you can tell, I’m sure, I’m soooo in love with these lipsticks. They are wonderfully bright and very comfortable to wear, plus they also fade fairly evenly and last for absolutely ages; several hours after drinking and eating there was still a strong hit of colour present, and when they fade they don’t leave a rim around the lips like a lot of strong colours do. If you’re unsure of whether these will do it for you, just pop down to your local Clinique counter and have a swatch as I can pretty much guarantee you’ll be a convert! The Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipsticks are available now, both instore and online, for £18 a go here – link. Don’t forget to check out my swatches of the other shades here.
