I seriously cannot get enough of the new Maybelline Baby Lips Balm & Blush which are wonderful, dinky little multi-taskers that are a total joy to use. Available in four easy-to-wear shades and continuing the success of the original Baby Lips, the Maybelline Baby Lips Balm & Blush are fast becoming my go-to products for a multitude of looks.
The four shades available are Innocent Peach, Flirty Pink, Booming Ruby and Shimmering Bronze. The only one that doesn’t really do much for me is Shimmering Bronze, but I think that’s mostly because I don’t really do the whole ‘bronzed cheek’ look as I’m so pale, I need a bit of colour to bring me to life. Thankfully, that complexion-boosting colour can be found in all of the other three shades.
As the name suggests, the Maybelline Baby Lips Balm & Blush are designed to be used as both blushers and tinted lipbalms, so they provide a sheer wash of colour alongside a balmy finish. When used on the cheeks, they definitely need to be patted in as otherwise they can look overly shiny, but this takes seconds, and the finish you’re left with is a wonderfully youthful dewy glow alongside a gentle hit of colour that is truly very flattering. On the lips you can build-up the colour a bit more for a stronger colour payoff, but obvious these are tinted balms so they have limited pigmentation.
Years ago, Bobbi Brown used to do these little lipstick style blusher sticks that gave skin a hit of gentle colour in a balmy finish. They then replaced them with a more pigmented, less balmy product and I was gutted as I always loved the finish the original gave. FINALLY there is something that gives a similar finish and that, of course, is the Maybelline Baby Lips Balm & Blush. They don’t last too long (nor would I expect them to) but they travel well so topping-up on-the-go is quick and easy. I find grasping the handle a tad awkward, but that’s pretty much the only negative I can find. I think these will really come into their own during the warmer months when you can get away with tinted moisturiser (assuming you have better skin than I have!), a quick coat of mascara and one of these on your cheeks and lips. I would struggle to pick a favourite between Innocent Peach and Flirty Pink, but if pushed I’d say that Innocent Peach is an absolute essential. These lovelies are out now for £4.99 here – link.
