One of the most-read posts of all time on my blog is my intro to The Ordinary; a range of purse-friendly products with high-tech formulas that have pretty much changed the face of High Street skincare…I don’t know why I’m bothering saying anything introductory to The Ordinary as I can’t imagine you’re reading this blog having never heard of them! I’m a huge fan of Salicylic Acid as a quick and effective ingredient to target breakouts – especially whiteheads or anything superficial – so I was keen to try the The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution to see how it performed.
For some reason, it’s quite tricky to find Salicylic Acid in a relatively pure form as it’s usually sitting amongst a whole host of other ingredients in spot-fighting products, but the The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution, whilst not completely pure, is certainly focused on having Salicylic Acid as it’s leading, key ingredient. It’s a kind of jelly formula – or thick gel – which is interesting as I was expecting it to be more liquid. The texture allows it to be applied directly to spots in a more precise fashion, so you don’t end up spreading it all over the area to be treated. Having said that though, I think you could get away with using this as a treatment product for areas prone to breakouts as I don’t find it at all drying, instead I find this to be a quick and gentle spot treatment that’s great as a finisher in any kind of skincare routine. I’ve used it alongside other acids and retinols and not found it to be drying or aggressive in any way. I also really like the fact that it’s in a dropper bottle as that keeps things relatively hygienic. As with all The Ordinary products, this is a steal at £3.90(!!) here – link.
