If you follow me on Instagram (if you don’t, please do, I’m always on there – find me here) then you’ll know that I received a Nudestix palette last week and I’ve been pretty much obsessing with it ever since. Nudestix are crayon-style products in a variety of forms and finishes that put the joy back into make-up, by allowing you to be a bit more casual and creative with the looks you achieve.
The particular Nudestix set I have is the Nudestix Pick A Palette, which is a Harvey Nichols exclusive that lets you pick six Nudestix from a variety of colours to create your very own bespoke palette. This means you get exactly what you want with no dud shades, making it a great introduction to the brand for anyone unfamiliar. For me, it totally sold me on the range, as you can probably tell!
I spent an alarming amount of time deciding what colours to go for – which was actually part of the fun, as I felt that I was creating myself a carefully considered palette of colours that I would really enjoy using. I decided to go for four eye shades and two lip and cheek shades. The Lip & Cheek Pencil shades I went for were Belle – a rosy brown-leaning nude and Kiss, a warmer mid pink.
The eye shades I went for were Queen Olive – a shimmering antique gold; Immortal – a deep, rich brown; Taupe – a perfectly neutral mid brown and finally Fig, a warm, red-tinged brown. Taupe and Fig are Magnetic Matte Eye Colours, Queen Olive is a Magnetic Eye Colour and Immortal is a Magnetic Luminous Eye Colour. I am really pleased with my shade selection as everything there is gorgeous and right up my street.
The palette case is attractively presented as a metal tin that works with the overall theme of the Nudestix products. In the case you get the six pencils, alongside a sharpener which is a very handy inclusion to ensure you can keep using all the pencils continuously. The case itself has a good sized mirror inside, although mine was slightly warped so it’s not great for zoning in on detailing, but it is fine for overall quick applications.
I’ve been joyously trying out a variety of looks, and whilst I definitely love both the shades, I find I’m most reaching for Kiss for my lips as it provides a really pretty, flattering shade on both lips and cheeks. Above I’m wearing it on both lips and cheeks, and I’ve also used all shades other than Fig on the eyes, starting with Taupe as a base, Immortal for definition and Queen Olive for a bit of central light.
Above I’ve just used Immortal all around the upper and lower lids and Belle on the lips. I also love to smudge Taupe all over the lid for everyday easy eyes. I have been trying out different techniques, and I definitely think that using your fingers to blend it out produces the best result, although you can go for a cleaner finish with a brush – I find using a pointed smudger the best for this. The eye formulas have impressive hold; you have about a minute to get it into position and blend it out before it’s firmly attached until you’re ready to remove. The Pick a Palette is available at Harvey Nichols for £60, which saves you £60, so not the cheapest palette you’ll ever buy, but definitely a great way to try out the brand.
