I had no idea just how much of an impact hard water had on skin and hair health until I moved into my current home, which is in an extremely hard water area; so much so, that it is basically impossible to get that white dusty residue off cutlery after washing up, all the taps have that constant ring of limescale around them and we have a water filter installed directly into the mains so the water we drink is a little more pure.
Hello Klean have developed an entire range for those of us in hard water areas to assist with this very real. but often overlooked, issue. To start off, there are two devices available that you can add to your shower – the Purifying Shower Head and the Shower Filter – plus a range of hair care to tackle the issues associated with the impact that hard water can have on your hair. I was sent the Purifying Shower Head to try, so here are my thoughts.
Firstly, this is not a cheap product to invest in at £65 for the shower head, then £40 for the replacement every filters that they recommend changing every 3 months (depending on usage – this is based on a 2 person household) and it is by no means an essential for everyone, but if you do live in a hard water area then I think you would notice quite a difference in the quality of the water, particularly if you have sensitive skin or dry hair. I feel that my hair is a lot cleaner since I moved to the shower head – I’ve actually had it quite a while and I can tell when the cartridge needs changing based on the fact that my hair starts to feel like it has a film on it after washing – and most importantly, my skin doesn’t itch after a bath. This is a significant thing as I always thought it was from the heat, but I now make sure I shower myself really thoroughly after a bath and the itchy skin has stopped.
In my recent Sephora order I received sample sachets of the Hello Klean Hard Water Shampoo and matching conditioner, and I really enjoyed using them; I can definitely see how they would play a significant role for those who have coloured and/or bleached hair which often becomes very brassy as a result of the metals often found in water, and the whole Hello Klean range is designed to help with this too.
In conclusion, I will keep replacing my filters as I find the shower head really helpful. It’s also pleasant to use with a decent water pressure and apparently it also reduces water usage by 25%, so it does actually offer a lot more than just a reduction in the hardness of water. The filters are also very easy to replce and come with the appropriate tools. You can find the full range at Hello Klean – here – where there are various bundles, but the range is also available at Sephora – here – where they often run promos, so it might be worth hanging tight if you want to grab a bargain.
