In a world where we’re now experiencing all manner of new and exciting beauty developments, it’s quite easy to feel as if we’ve seen and tried it all, so the charmingly basic, yet surprisingly appealing Aveda Tulasara Radiant Awakening Ritual duo makes a very welcome addition to my obscenely large skincare kit. The Aveda Tulasara range launches with five products – three serums, an oil and a facial brush, the latter two of which create the Radiant Awakening Ritual.
The idea behind this ritual is a basic one that we know well – you exfoliate (with the brush) then hydrate (with the oil) but what’s lovely about this duo is how rustic and easy it feels – you’re literally dry brushing your face, then applying the gloriously slippery oil as a kind of mask treatment that you leave on for a minimum of four minutes, before carrying on with your skincare routine; you apply it to a cleansed face and you follow with a cleanse to remove the oil, making it a great choice for those who love the idea of oils in their skincare, but don’t want to leave anything on for too long. You may sigh at the idea of an additional step in your already buckling routine, but there are lots of ways to adapt this treatment to suit your own agenda – for example, I personally like to use it as a treatment a couple of times a week just to add a bit of a boost, but you can also use it just before bed and leave the non-comedogenic oil on overnight either under or in place of your usual moisturiser. For me, the ritualistic experience of spending a good few minutes gently working the brush over my face before massaging with the oil is such a treatment-like experience, that I fear doing it too often would make it too much like everyday skincare that would become habitual and mechanical – this is an experience to be savoured! However, if you can’t get enough of it then you can do it every day, and as it’s such a gentle take on skincare you can do it morning or evening, depending on your preference. I personally really love the brush – it’s designed very well, feels just rough enough to exfoliate without upsetting skin and it really does leave skin looking and feeling smoother. The duo are quite expensive at £65 here – link – or you can buy the brush for £27 here – link – or the Radiant Oleation Oil for £38 here – link.
