I’ve always found Yes To quite fascinating as a brand – they originally launched with Yes To Carrots, before slowly adding more Yes To… lines that were skin and/or hair type specific. Their latest line focuses on combination and spot-prone skin types and is built around the benefit of tomatoes, with some products also containing charcoal and salicylic acid. As regular readers will know, I suffer from very tricky skin that’s extremely prone to breakouts, BUT also prone to dryness, so ingredients and products that are sold as spot-fighting can often cause havoc with my skin by drying it out and leaving it feeling tight and very unbalanced, which in turn then generates more breakouts as my skin has no idea what’s going on! Therefore the fact that the Yes To Tomatoes range is aimed at combination and spot-prone skin types appealed since it sounded like a range that took into account the common issue of dehydration in tricky skin types.
I realise I’m going to get in a lot of trouble for saying this, but I really like the Yes to Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Facial Wipes! However, I use them as a treatment when my skin is being particularly tricky; I get home and cleanse with a micellar, then I use these wipes to remove any residual dirt, make-up and grime and I then get on with my evening before doing a more thorough cleanse before bed to get my skin ready for products and treatments. This is a great way to use these wipes, I do not recommend using them as an alternative to cleansing, nor as an eye make-up remover as they contain a good dose of spot-fighting salicylic acid. These are £3.99 here – link.
Next up is the Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Cleanser which, as I’m sure you can tell, includes charcoal in the mix to suck out any impurities from the skin. 2016 was really the year that charcoal became quite a key ingredient for spot-fighting and with good reason, as it’s quite a gentle yet effective way of pulling nasties to the front so they can be eliminated. I quite liked this cleanser – I wouldn’t say I absolutely love it, but I liked it enough to keep it (rather than donate to friends) as it’s quite nice when I need something a little more spot-fighting but I don’t want to reach for the acid cleansers. I think this is a great choice for younger skin that’s prone to occasional breakouts as I think it would balance this type of skin. It’s £8.99 here – link.
The final product I’ve been trying is the Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask, which contains all the big name spot-fighting ingredients alongside tomatoes, such as charcoal and salicylic acid as well as jojoba oil, which is a great oil for spot-prone skin types as it’s pretty similar to the oil we produce on our skin, so it will trick the body into believing it doesn’t need to send any more over – a great one for oily skin types and in fairness, a pretty good all-rounder that would do a good job at a deep cleanse on any skin type, including maybe even the very sensitive as it’s pretty gentle, but do patch test first, just in case! It’s £11.99 here – link – which I actually think is pretty expensive for a high street mask, but it is a good one. For a fuss free deep cleanse though, most charcoal mud masks will achieve the same thing, albeit with possibly a more drying finish.
