Every so often, you get a beautifully designed collection that leaves you struggling to decide whether to frame it, or use it, much like the Marimekko x Clinique collection; an edit of 30 lip products consisting of 10 redesigned takes on the cult Clinique Pop Colour + Primer Lipsticks, and 20 gorgeous shades of the new Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration, all of which have been designed by Finnish design house Marimekko, and aren’t they absolutely gorgeous?
The new Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration are probably one of my all-time favourite lip launches as they are just perfect. Think of your favourite lipgloss, that plumps, add shine and colour, whilst smoothing your lips in an unbelievably flattering finish, that also treats and hydrates your lips, so when you remove the product, you’re left with lips that feel nourished and plump rather than abused by product. That is the Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration.
Of the 20 shades of the Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration, there’s a fairly good mix of colours that mostly sit within nude and berry tones – they could definitely do with a few more pinks. The formula is quite buildable, so you can start with a sheer wash of colour and build on that to something a bit more pigmented.
I mostly favour the red-leaning berry tones such as the perfectly named Juicy Apple (13) and Pinot Pop is a surprise favourite, giving lips a hit of flattering glossy, wine-stained colour (it’s what I’m wearing above) and I also really like Air Kiss, which is a light, slightly sparkly, pink-leaning nude that adds the lightest wisp of colour that’s great for brightening-up a basic, everyday make-up look.
The sponge tip applicator makes application a breeze as it allows you to work product into the lip, rather than placing it on as you might a traditional gloss, which helps get a really clean, flattering and natural finish. This is such an impressive formula that is perfect for the colder months when lips are crying out for a bit of hydrating help; the Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration proves that you can have beautiful, glossy lips without forsaking the benefits of a hydrating lip care product.
The Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration are £17 each, as are the Marimekko x Clinique Pop Colour + Primer lipsticks. The latter is limited edition but I don’t know if the same applies to the Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration glosses – I hope not, as they need to hang about!
