Ella Mae Lasting Nutrition Avocado Shampoo and Mask

I had quite the hair care journey in 2020, kicking off with the hair loss from illness, followed by the realisation that I either needed to learn how to cut my own hair, or accept that it was going to get very, very long.  Predictably, I went for the latter, so now I have extremely long hair (for me, at least) that needs a whole new world of care beyond my previous needs which were mostly just washing when greasy with whatever I had to hand.  Now, my hair is pretty high maintenance, so it needs products that assist with that, and I have become very fond of shampoo and mask sets, as not only do they feel pampering, they’re also great for baths as you can do it all at the start, then whilst you’re having a soak, the mask does it job and all you have to do at the end is rinse it all off.

I was completely unfamiliar with the Ella Mae range before they contacted me; they appear to mostly be a collection of shampoo and mask duos for hair, with a couple of skincare bits thrown in for good measure.  What I really like about them is how each set is designed to address a particular hair care issue, so for example. you have the Rosewater duo for balancing and anti-oiliness, the Nigella Miracle Elixir is for strengthening and the Aloe Vera is for ultimate repair, so I like the fact that the sets provide very specific assistance with issues that step outside the usual “dry, oil or frizzy” hair types, as much like skin, most of us don’t slot into one type and can have much more specific requirements.

I requested the Lasting Nutrition Avocado Shampoo and Mask because I thought these would be the duo that would suit my hair the most, as I don’t want anything too rich, but at the same time I need something fairly hydrating as the lengths and ends of my hair have been around for a while now! I don’t like avocado at all, so I was hopeful this wouldn’t be an issue and thankfully it wasn’t as both products smell absolutely lovely – light and clean without being too OTT or perfume-y.  

I was extremely impressed with both products from the first use, as they really suit my hair and give it exactly what it needs – my hair looks incredibly healthy and shiny after use, but there’s no additional weight and my roots didn’t get greasier more quickly, which is often the case with products that nourish.  It’s difficult to say whether my hair became stronger after use, but I would say it definitely felt like it was less prone to snapping.  I really recommend this duo for a fantastic hair treatment that you could probably get away with using each wash, or limiting it to a one or twice weekly treat.
