When Boots got in touch to ask me to share my tips on false lash application using Ardell Lashes, I jumped at the chance as I’m so, so bad at applying them and I thought this could the opportunity I need to focus my attention on perfecting my technique. I was sent a trio of the iconic Ardell Wispies to try out, so now I’ve had a good go, I’ll share with you what I’ve learned!
Firstly, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m always going to be a bit rubbish at lash application, but I am definitely better than I was, so that’s progress! You know those people who just apply a bit of glue, slap on the lash band and look fabulous immediately? I am very much the opposite of that. Having said that, I do have some tips to share that might, hopefully, improve your lash application experience somewhat, so if you’re struggling, try these suggestions:
- First up, if you’re new to eyelash application, make sure you start off with some good quality lashes, such as the Ardell Naked Lashes, and invest in a pair purely for practising, so you can muck them up freely without worrying about prolonging their longevity. This means you can trim, glue and re-glue as much as you need until you get the hang of it.
- Have a freestanding, ideally magnifying, mirror to hand so you can look down into the mirror when you apply the lashes. This allows you to see where you’re applying them without risking getting glue everywhere, or doing what I did the first few times, which was glue my own lashes to my eyelid – FUN!
- Trim the lashes to fit your eye size, or even make them slightly smaller than your eyes to give a more natural look, if you consider where your lashes start – all eyes are different, so tailor the lash to match your natural lashes.
- Bend the lashes to get them to give a bit, so they’re likely to stick to your lash line and less likely to pop up whilst you’re teasing them into position.
- Use a good lash glue, such as the Duo (widely touted as the very best lash adhesive available) that’s included in every set of Ardell lashes.
- Practise, practise, then practise some more. Good lash application is a skill and very few people can immediately master a skill without working at it for quite some time, giving it a chance to develop.
- Finally, all people are different and have different needs, so invest in a variety of lashes to have a play with so you can find your perfect match. Some people will do well with big, long, fluttery lashes like the Ardell Naked Lashes, whilst others will find it easier to develop their skill with something more discreet such as the Ardell Natural Lashes, so it’s all about finding what works for you.
The great thing about the Ardell Lashes range is that it really is huge, so there’s something for every need and price point and you can find them all at Boots.
