I received the new CurrentBody Skin Radio Frequency Device a few weeks ago, and I’ve been *desperate* to talk about it as it’s such an exciting launch, but I needed to hang tight until the device was available, and now that day has finally arrived! I thought I’d share a first impressions post to get you acquainted with the device, but please do follow me on TikTok as I’ll be sharing some detailed videos of me using it and some baseline images to hopefully give you a more thorough intro to the product. Radio Frequency is an extremely safe and effective treatment that works by heating the lower levels of your skin, to encourage collagen production and a speedier cellular turnover, resulting in skin that is firmer, tighter and more even in tone. The results are quick, the treatment is very easy to do at home, and other than a bit of heat, there’s no discomfort at all. The best thing about using Radio Frequency is that it can be used on all of the problem areas, such as jawline, crows feet, forehead lines, brow ’11s’ lines…basically anywhere that you’d like to boost and improve.
CurrentBody Skin devices are always so reliably impressive, so I was very excited to see how the CurrentBody Skin RF Device would perform, as I knew that if anybody was going to nail this as an at-home device, it would be CurrentBody, and I was not wrong! I’ve used quite a few similar devices but they do not compete with this one, which is so powerful that you can feel your skin reacting to the process. It also utilises Skin Sense Technology, which is basically a sensor that constantly monitors the temperature of the device to ensure a safe and optimal treatment; this is especially reassuring as the device really does heat up!
You can tailor your treatment plan, by either selecting the areas you want to focus on (mine are currently the jawline and crows feet, although I think I’ll probably be adding in some more areas soon) or you can do a full face treatment which would take 70 minutes in total, which sounds long, but it’s a very easy treatment that you only need to do once a week.
You start the treatment by applying the included Radio Frequency Gel to the areas you’re treating (this is a really good gel – it feels a bit unpleasant as it’s very slippery and tacky, but it stays put for the whole treatment and doesn’t evaporate, unlike similar products I’ve tried) then make a note of the treatment time (it’s different for each area) and set a timer – the device has a light that changes colour when the treatment is over, but it’s easy to miss – then crack on whilst watching telly. You just move it either back and forth, or around in circles; the idea is to just ensure that the area gets fully treated and you never hold it in one place, you need to keep the device moving for the entire treatment.
The guide book recommends doing a patch test and I absolutely would agree, especially if you’re a retinol user as this is technically a contraindication for the device, but, I would think that most people interested in this type of device would likely be retinol fans, so obviously you need to decide if it’s a risk you’re willing to take; I use a very strong tretinoin and I just ensure I don’t use it for 24 hours either side of the RF treatment and that has worked well for me, but obviously that doesn’t mean the same will apply to you, so please keep that in mind and at the very least, make sure you do a patch test first!
After the treatment, expect maybe a bit of a pinkness and skin that feels a little tight, but not sore or uncomfortable, and this all goes away very quickly. I’d also note that my eyes were quite puffy the next day, but that also went away very quickly and honestly, I see it as a sign that something is actually happening! I’m very early on in my journey with this device, but I really do feel that the under eye area looks a bit tighter already, and there’s less of a depression between the top of my cheek and the start of my under eye area, so I’m very excited to see how it all progresses!
In the box you get the device with a charger and a cap/stand (I really like the fact that the stand is a snug fit so it won’t fall off) as well as the user manual, a pouch for storage and various different plug fittings for the charger. You also get the gel, which as I said, is very good, and you don’t need a lot of it per treatment so it should last a good while.
