Boutique are a make-up brand that launched into Sainsbury’s last year with a *seriously* impressive range of budget-friendly shades and finishes. The collection is very carefully edited so as to not overwhelm the consumer, and instead present you with exactly what you need, be that the perfect taupe shade for eyes, or a classic red for lips. I won’t bang on about it too much more as you can read my intro post here where you’ll find more info on the brand as well as a few swatches of lip and eye shades.
In time for Valentine’s I received two lip products from Boutique to help create the aforementioned classic red lip; lipstick in Paint the Town Red and Lipgloss in The Coast is Clear. Paint the Town Red is a brilliantly bright red that flatters me far more than I expected it to! I was actually really surprised how much I liked this shade as I rarely like bright reds, but it met the elusive criteria of being bright and vivid without veering into ‘tarty’ (as my mother would call it…apparently the red shades in the collection were given particular scrutiny by the creators to ensure the very best shades very available) territory. The finish is smooth and creamy with a slightly sheeny finish.
You don’t need to add gloss as the finish of the lipstick alone is really lovely, but there is something extremely sexy about a glossy red lip, so following up with The Coast is Clear adds a juicy finish that works really well with the vivid red. You might want to add a lip liner if you’re using gloss as the combination of infamously runny red shades with a lipgloss might result in colour move.
This is such a classic red lip shade that it can be dressed up or down; for a simple look, team with a light base, gently flushed cheeks and one coat of mascara, or dress it up with vinyl lined eyes, well-defined brows and a matte base with contoured cheeks. Boutique is available now from Sainsbury’s with the lipsticks priced at £7 and the lipglosses are £6.
