Superdrug turn 50 this year (yet they don’t look a day over 17 due to their free access to all the best anti-ageing products) and to mark the occasion they’ve pulled some images from the vault to give us an insight into beauty 50 years ago. I love stuff like this; it makes me long for simpler times when hair would Go Gay and be held tenderly yet firmly by Sunsilk (see below) and your mascara came in a cake format. Those were the days, I’m sure.
Go Gay Hairspray! I can almost hear the advert jingle in my head. I quite like the idea that you pick the cap colour depending on your hair type.
To me this is a bit like the lipstick version of Where’s Wally?; can you spot the lipstick that isn’t an ever-so-slight variant on coral red?
Wow these really do look vintage, and massive too! They’re a cost-effective purchase as once you’re done with them on your eyes you can then use them as dusters.
Sunsilk sounds so loving doesn’t it? This is the boyfriend version of a hairspray; the next generation had an in-built recording stating that your bum looks perfectly sized in your new jeans.
Above is beauty then, which appears to be mostly Rimmel, and below we have beauty now:
Doesn’t it make you wonderfully nostalgic? I love the simplicity of the packaging and the very basic approach to labelling. It’s such a lovely colour-coded collection! To celebrate their birthday, Superdrug have loads of limited edition products spanning all elements of beauty (think fragrance, skincare, make-up etc) some of which you can see in the first image above. Happy Birthday Superdrug!
Wow… Shows how times have changed!
Wonder what products we use today will appear in their 100th birthday poster?
That’s such a good point! It’s going to be very interesting xx
omg! so cute.
They’re gorgeous aren’t they? 😀 I love them! xx
