Models Own Speckled Eggs Collection in Magpie, Dove and Duck

This extremely seasonal launch that will be available just in time for Easter is the Models Own Speckled Eggs collection.  This gorgeous set of five shades of strong, colour-pop pastels are inspired by the “ornate bird egg shells” meaning that the finish is akin to a slightly matte, porcelain eggshell and the colour selection mirrors this.

It’d be a bit like ignoring the pink elephant if we didn’t give acknowledgement to Illamasqua’s Speckled collection which are the originals of this “egg-style” finish, but I will say that I think I prefer the colour choices available as they’re brighter and more vivid.

The one difference I spot immediately as well is the size of the chunks that create the speckled finish; in Illamasqua they’re quite large chunks whereas the Models Own ones are smaller and there are more different sized chunks suspended within the polish.

There are five shades available in total, and these are:

Dove – baby pink.

Duck – fairly bright cornflower blue.

Goose – a really good yellow that appears to be bright enough without going too neon.

Magpie – a strong mint green shade that I would anticipate being quite popular.

Swan – a bright, light lilac.

All the names of the shades are birds names in keeping with the egg shell theme.  The shades are strong and hold the speckles well, resulting in a really good finish that appears – as is almost always the case with Models Own – of far higher quality than the £5 price tag suggests.

The three shades I have to play with are Dove, Duck and Magpie.  I really do think Magpie will be popular and Dove is a beautiful shade of pink, but I think my favourite of the three is Duck.  Not only is is the sort of shade I immediately think of when faced with considering bird shell shades, but the colour itself combined with the speckles and the gentle porcelain finish all work so well together that it’s a really wonderful effect, so expect a NOTD of this shade soon!

As you can see, two coats are definitely needed but for any kind of suspension polish I’d always suggest two coats to give it that 3D type effect; as you can see in the picture above, the effect really comes to life after two coats.  The Models Own Speckled Eggs collection launches into Bottleshops on 8th March 2014, online and in Superdrug on the 12th March and finally everywhere else on the 19th March for £5 a polish.

I think the purple one does too! Other than that I’d say the shades are mostly brighter and more summery xx
