You might remember a while ago I participated in a beauty pass the parcel – here’s my post – where I was treated to some lovely goodies from Jen, and these included the Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation. Ever since trying the Sensual Skin Enhancer (review here), I’ve been desperate to the try the fluid counterpart, so I was extremely happy to get this in my package – thank you Jen!
The Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation is a very unusual product, quite unlike anything I’ve come across previously. If forced to compare, I’d say it’s a little bit like Armani Maestro or even the most recent Nars Luminous Weightless foundation launch (my review) however it isn’t like those enough for me to describe them as similar. Instead it’s like an oily, silky serum with little lumps of pigment – that sounds horrendous but it actually works very well and is especially interesting since it’s oil-free.
Unfortunately the lighting has gone against me in the above picture as it doesn’t make me look as scarily pale as the image suggests. I have shade 2 which is a great match for me – I’ve included an image from another post below which was taken when I’d finished my make-up and in better lighting; as you can see, a lot less scary! You need a very well primed base for this to go on as otherwise it can make skin look rather dry and dehydrated. Having said that, if you get the primer right then this foundation is very good, offering decent yet lightweight coverage that lasts very well and doesn’t look flat or mask-like.
I like it very much and, once settled into skin, it gives an extremely flattering finish. However, it’s £52 a bottle (a very nice bottle at that – with a gorgeous pipette applicator) and for that price it would need to blow my mind and tick every single base box for me, which unfortunately it doesn’t. If you’re free with cash this is a great foundation and it’s one I’ll use up, but I won’t repurchase as it’s too expensive for what it is. Also, if you’re undecided about which Kevyn Aucoin Foundation to go for then I’d say the Sensual Skin Enhancer pot is your best bet, as not only will it last you forever, it’s such a versatile product that you will find plenty of uses for it and it’s also a lot cheaper at £38 – you can find it here – link – and you can find the Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation here – link.
