The newest Bobbi Brown launch is the Smokey Nudes collection, which, as the name suggests, is a collection of nude shades with a smokey finish – a lovely, easy-to-wear collection that will please those of use who always favour a nude eye but wouldn’t mind sexing it up a bit. One of my favourite looks of all time is the nude smokey eye (it was always what I went for on nights out – back in the day when I had a social life and didn’t deem a night to be a success when I managed to be in bed by 10) and this collection is a lovely way to pull that look together.
The full Bobbi Brown Smokey Nudes collection consists of the Smokey Nudes Eye Palette, a new Shimmer Brick in Sandstone that would look *amazing* with smokey nude eyes – might have to treat myself as it’s been a while since I picked up a new Shimmer Brick so I can definitely justify it… – 4 new shades of Creamy Matte Lip Color as well as the Smokey Eye Kajal Liner and the Smokey Eye Mascara. The eye palette, Shimmer Brick and nude color lip shades are limited edition, and I think the kajals and mascara are part of the exciting collection. Check out the full collection here – link.
I was sent three of the new nude shades of the Creamy Matte Lip Color. Regular readers will know that I’m not much of a nude lip fan – I do think most people either love a nude lip or eye but rarely both, although that’s purely speculative – but thankfully the nude shades that form the lip element of the Bobbi Brown Smokey Nudes are really lovely shades. There’s an additional shade which I don’t have called Pink Nude, and the three shades I have – from light to dark – are Warm Nude, Soft Nude and Nude.
I have to say, this is my first experience of the Creamy Matte Lip Color formula from Bobbi Brown and, as expected, it’s a total winner; creamy, easy, comfortable and pigmented, so if you like a matte lip and haven’t tried these then they’re well worth checking out. All three shades I have are pinkish in tone which is why I think they’re quite wearable, even for those who don’t usually get on with nude lips – I especially like them in the look I’m wearing in these pictures as I’ve gone for a very light smokey eye.
Warm Nude is the lightest of the three and gives that slightly pale, milky nude finish – it’s a flattering take on ‘foundation lips’ and for me it’s the shade I normally associate with the term “nude lips”. Soft Nude is more of a brick shade that’s an easy, everyday colour that’d work with most eye looks, although I think it would look best alongside a strong eye. Lastly there’s Nude which is a deep, almost vampy shade that I’m surprised I like so much! It’s a versatile raisin shade that would look great with a graphic lined eye, a smokey eye, or if you’re having a lazy day then just a hit of mascara.
All-in-all, I’m surprised how much I like these nude shades and considering 2014 seems to be the year of the nude lip, I think these offer some great shade choices for those who don’t always get on with these types of shades. They look rather dull in the pan so I would really recommend swatching them before deciding whether they’re for you or not as they come to life in a swatch. Remember these shades are limited edition so if you see something you like, you’ll need to act quickly. They are available now for £19.50 both instore and online here – link.
