Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (bespoke trio)

A few weeks ago I attended an event at Liberty in London and I was early.  There was nobody around to stop me and I was in the beauty hall surrounded by some of the prettiest products to exist that cannot be found locally.  Logic disappeared and was replaced by Beauty Junkie Rationale: What if I don’t visit Liberty again for ages? When was the last time I really treated myself to something expensive? What my blog is missing is an Hourglass product review – I must rectify this for the good of the people!

When arriving at the Hourglass counter to mooch over the Ambient Lighting Powder I was told that there was a promotion on that would allow me to pick three of the Ambient Lighting Powders to create my very own bespoke take on the Ambient Lighting Palette.  Keeping my lovely readers in mind and how much they’d enjoy a review of such a thing, I did the selfless act of buying this.  For you.  You’re welcome.

I will start by saying that £60 for a trio of shimmering powders is quite frankly a ridiculous amount to spend.  However, sometimes you just have to really, don’t you? So I did and annoyingly I have no regrets; annoyingly because I thought I’d get this trio home and think to myself what an unnecessary spend, but that hasn’t happened and I genuinely love them 🙁 <sad face.  The idea of Hourglass Ambient Lighting is to create a lighting effect on the skin, as if you’re in a room that contains that specified lighting.  For example, Dim Light will give the illusion of soft, dim lighting which, as we all know, is very flattering.

The trio I went for are, from left to right, Diffused Light, Mood Light and Luminous Light.  Diffused Light is the one recommended for blemished skin as it blurs imperfections and generally diffuses problem areas; it’s gentle enough to work well as an all-over finishing powder if used sparingly.  Mood Light is a more typical highlighting powder that can be used on the cheekbones and brow bones or built-up a little on the cheeks for a bit of rosiness and Diffused Light is quite similar to Mood Light, just a different tone with more sparkle that gives a polished finish.  The latter two can be used as eyeshadows for a dressed down look too.

If you just want one powder, I’d say go for Diffused Light as it really does diffuse and gives skin a real lift; it brings make-up to life and doesn’t sparkle too much, whereas the other two you have to tread carefully with as you can easily overdo it.  I do use all three powders each day, but using the full trio is totally unnecessary…there’s just something wonderfully indulgent about using them all together though! There is no way in hell I’d say these are essentials if you can’t afford them as you can definitely achieve something similar with a much cheaper product, but for a beautiful, soft glow these are truly something special.

As I said, the trio I got was through a promotion and I paid £60 for them which actually isn’t terrible considering each individual powder is £38, so buying three individually would’ve set me back £114, but £60 is still a mega amount to spend on make-up.  If you’re still keen and this won’t bankrupt you, I’d suggest buying an individual powder and seeing how you get on with it before investing in the Ambient Lighting Palette which contains Incandescent Light, Dim Light and Radiant Light and can be found here – link.
