I’ve managed to maintain the Nutribullet habit and I’d say five out of every seven days I have a Nutribullet smoothie – the other days I’ll have a ready made one, usually from Savse. I’ve been experimenting with different ingredients and amounts to find something that would not only contain as much goodness as possible, but also taste fairly good so that I’d look forward to drinking it.
I can tolerate pretty rough-tasting smoothies for the benefit of the healthiness that comes with drinking a glass full of garden, but I use the big glass from the Nutribullet starter set (check out my intro here) and it’s rather overwhelming to be faced with something that size knowing that it’s going to taste a little on the funky side, so whilst I aim for a serious glass of greens one or twice a week, every other day I go with the ingredients you can see in the pictures.
I start with a good handful of fresh spinach and top that with 3-4 stems of frozen broccoli. I was originally going for fresh broccoli, but the frozen chills the drink right down and it also doesn’t dominate the flavour as much as fresh does. On top of that goes my fruit, which is usually anything from half to a full punnet of blueberries depending on how soon they’re expiring (as a sidenote, I’ve used blueberries up to a week past their sell-by date and they’ve been fine), half a punnet of raspberries and 4-5 strawberries.
The add-ons are chia seeds – I love these as not only are they health powerhouses, they also give the smoothie quite a fab texture, a bit like bubble tea but with smaller ‘bubbles’ – and then around 8 or 9 walnuts. Walnuts are apparently the best nuts you can eat, yet I really don’t like them, so this is a great way to get them in my diet without really noticing them, although I’ll warn you that they do give a slightly bitter aftertaste, however it’s barely noticeable. I have Organic Burst Maca Powder and Chlorella Powder, the latter of which I add 1 teaspoon of to every smoothie. Maca I’ll only add if I’m struggling with little sleep and low energy. Finally, I finish with a good helping of coconut water to give it fluidity, additional flavour and also, as coconut water is very hydrating, adding it comes with more health benefits. The two things I’d always recommend are coconut water – as it really does bring everything together so nothing overwhelms (like broccoli!) and strawberries, which are so flavourful, so if you really struggle with green flavours in smoothies then strawberries are your friend, as if you bung enough in, they’ll be pretty much all you can taste. I could not recommend Nutribullet smoothie-making enough and if my gadget died tomorrow, I’d replace it the same day – it truly has made the biggest difference to my health and well-being and I look forward to feeling great after every drink! This looks so healthy – but tasty too! Throwing veg in with my smoothie is a bit of a new thing for me, I’m very much a fruit girl but trying to slowly work in some of the green stuff too!

Funnily enough, the veg actually balances the fruit and stops it tasting too sickly, so it works really well and as long as you don’t use anything too strong tasting then it’s very easy to drink!
