Fragrance Friday: Escentric Molecules Escentric 02

When it comes to fragrance, I find it just the right side of fascinating, confusing and captivating to keep me engaged and intrigued without leaving me feeling overwhelmed…that is, until you introduce the extremely fascinating, utterly confusing and truly captivating collection of fragrance that is Escentric Molecules; I find myself so totally confused by the brand that it took me a good 10 minutes to work out what the full name of the fragrance I’m posting about today actually is; is it Escentric Molecule 02? Molecule Escentric 02? Nope, it’s definitely (I’m 99.6% certain…) Escentric 02 by the brand called Escentric Molecules.  To simplify things, each time they launch a new fragrance collection (I believe they currently have three) they launch a single molecule scent – Molecule 01, 02 or 03 and a formulaic scent, Escentric 01, 02 and 03.  I’ve been familiarising myself with Escentric 02, so I thought I’d share my thoughts with you.

Escentric 02 is truly fascinating – have I used that word enough yet? – and every time I spray it I think the exact same thing as it’s quite unlike anything I’ve come across before.  The initial spritz is a citric slap in the face that very quickly turns into a cool, tall, glass of gin and tonic dripping with condensation – you can almost taste it.  According to Fragrantica there are only four fragrance notes; Iso E Super – which I think is probably what the brand is famed for (and is the only note in the original Molecule 01) followed by the iconic Ambroxane (if you want to really weird yourself out, Google how Ambroxane is made) followed by a couple of traditional fragrance notes – jasmine and iris, the latter of which make this a much easier to wear fragrance than it probably sounds.  The finish arrives quickly and stays pretty much the same the whole way through – after the initial burst of shocking citrus, you’re left with a surprisingly gentle yet still full and interesting scent that is like nothing else I have in my collection.  Fascinating!
