A few weeks ago I featured the Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Essence de Parfum, which is a more recent take on the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, which is what I’m reviewing today. Jean Paul Gaultier Classique has an incredibly safe and special place in my heart since it was my first real fragrance love and, having not experienced it for absolutely years, I was intrigued to see how it would make me feel, since it was such a prominent scent for my developing years.
However, I still absolutely love it and happily wear it with joy, especially when I’m in need of a confidence boost as it’s one of those unashamedly sexy, vampy scents that just screams femininity in every form. It’s big, bold, deep and full of amazing notes that give it a huge presence that starts with a big burst of slightly fruity, floral spiciness that develop into more of a floral heart with a base of amber, musk and vanilla. It’s a huge fragrance that really has got a bit of everything in there!
Interestingly, there doesn’t seem to be a definitive list of the exact notes (I’ll update if I find one!) as each list I find varies quite a bit, so to save error, I won’t list the whole lot, but there’s definitely orange blossom, pear, rose, star anise, iris, plum, ginger, amber, vanilla and musk, alongside quite a few others – see what I mean? It’s huge! It would be quite ridiculous to review Jean Paul Gaultier Classique and not discuss the beautiful, curvy bottle – the EDT is plain, the EDP (pictured) is lacy – which is equally as iconic as the fragrance itself.
I will continue to hunt for an absolute list of the fragrance notes as there is Jean Paul Gaultier Classique has the most distinctive scent that I haven’t experienced in other fragrances and I would love to find out exactly what it is; it’s in the dry down so if you’re reading this and you know what I’m talking about, please do enlighten me. Jean Paul Gaultier Classique is one of those few fragrances that really feels like confidence in a bottle – you will feel instantaneously better the moment after you spray. Remember that this is a powerful scent that needs to be worn sparingly: even with one quick spray people will still likely smell you before they see you, which may or may not do it for you, depending on what you like. I say, wear this with total confidence and own the many layers of this gorgeous fragrance. It’s available here – link – with prices starting at £64 for the 50ml and going up to £76 for 100ml.
