I had a Liberty London voucher from ages ago that I lost in the move, then found a few months before Christmas, so I promptly headed to the beauty floor to see what I could pick up. I went for a Surratt lipstick and this Mario Badescu Essentials 50th Anniversary Edition kit, as it contained a couple of the products I had been wanting to try.
I was first introduced to the Mario Badescu line through the purchase of their cult Drying Lotion, which is basically a baby pink spot treatment that kind of suffocates the spot; it works really well but you have to hope that you won’t get any early morning deliveries before you’ve had a chance to wipe it off, as it is not a good luck! The Mario Badescu Essentials 50th Anniversary Edition kit contains a full-sized bottle of the Drying Lotion, which is great.
I think all the products are full-sized but I’m not 100% certain; they’re decent sizes at the very least. I love the fact that this kit contains a great collection of introductory products to the brand; a cleanser, a mist, a couple of masks and a treatment product. The Enzyme Cleansing Gel is nice enough, although it didn’t particularly wow me enough to encourage me to use it regularly; I got this at a time when I was in cleanser heaven with some real favourites taking centre stage, so I might have to revisit this to see if it grabs me. The Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater is one of the products I wanted to try. It’s a lovely, light, hydrating and soothing product that I’ll likely replace when I run out.
I haven’t tried the Silver Powder yet, even though it was the other product that I really wanted to try from the range, but my skin has mostly been spot-free recently and this sounds quite potent, so I don’t see any point in using a potent spot treatment on spot-free skin! The final product is the surprise from the collection, the Flower and Tonic Mask, which is a lightly purifying mask that feels and smells lovely – it’s the sort of product you might want to use if your skin needs a deep cleanse, but you don’t want to go for a full-on clay treatment, as this feels a lot more gentle, making it a really lovely product to use. I picked this set up for around £40 at Liberty London, but they don’t seem to have it anymore. However, Beauty Bay do and they’ve got it for £32 which is a brilliant price for this set.
