One of my all-time favourite things to do is visit Jo (Johanne Herald) at Charles Worthington in Percy Street, London, because the whole experience, from start to finish, is always a total joy and an experience I look forward to whenever I’m fortunate enough to be invited back. Last time I visited Jo was just before Christmas, and I went along with a desire to try something a bit different; I’ve been going for cool blonde for as long as I can remember, with the very occasional twist, so I decided this was the time to try something different.
I first got my inspiration from the Peanut Butter and Jelly hair trend that’s been showing up on my Instagram, which basically involves a mix of peanut buttery shades of blonde alongside deep plummy jam shades that I think looks really cool. We went for more plum with little areas of blonde poking through (Jo adapted the colours to ensure they suited me) and the look was definitely a drastic change, as you can see!
What I find most interesting about these shades is that they don’t wash me out, which I would’ve expected to happen considering it’s such a dark shade, but Jo is really good at knowing exactly what colours work against my skin tone and adjusting the depth and strength accordingly, there were also several different shades used to keep the colour alive and interesting – such a dark shade can very easily look flat if handled incorrectly.
I really enjoyed going such a different colour, but after a few weeks the novelty wore off and I definitely craved being blonde again, which always, always happens…I never learn! As the colour faded, I was left with a much lighter shade of red with plenty of blonde to keep me happy, and I actually really like how it looks now it’s faded. Having said that, I’m off to see Jo again next week to return to blonde again, so keep your eyes peeled for my second post on returning to blonde soon!
