I’m a firm believer in the huge benefits of a good night’s sleep. I don’t think there is any point in spending silly money on lotions and potions to keep you looking pretty if you’re going to neglect the basics, and in my mind the most essential basic is sleep.
I’ve been running around like a maniac lately, working all sorts of crazy hours, so my sleep has suffered and boy can you tell! My skin just doesn’t know what to do with itself when it’s sleep deprived and I’ve now got lovely, dry, tight-feeling skin with some very painful cysts on my chin and cheeks. Not fun. I’ll definitely need to make some time soon to pamper it back to normality, but in the meantime I have no idea what’s going on with my sleeping habits.
I used to be the kind of girl who sleep came easily to. Not necessarily one of those people who’s head hits the pillow and they’re out – most of the time my head indulges in the quiet time before sleep to work through everything – but once I’m out, I’m out. I’m rubbish at getting up before my body has decided it’s ready to awaken and there is no maximum time I can sleep for; if I decide I’m going to stay asleep for 14 or even 15 hours then it will happen…..until recently.
Now I go to bed, fall asleep in minutes and two hours later I’m wide awake again. I then have to get up for at least an hour, usually two, before I can head back to bed and get some more kip. This is a horrendous pattern that’s formed and I’m now feeling knackered constantly, so I thought I’d put it out to you, my lovely readers and request any suggestions you may have for better sleep. How do you get to sleep/stay asleep? What works for you? Is there anything you think I could do to improve my sleeping? I’d very much appreciate any suggestions, I don’t mind if they’re a bit out there as I’m happy to try anything at this point!
Get Some Sleep – Bic Runga.
Oh man. Guess you might try something from the post I published today!http://cityscape-bliss.blogspot.cz/2012/06/how-to-make-your-mind-draw-dreams-of.html was on pretty much the same line:) hope you get better!! xx
Thanks honey, the problem I’m having is staying asleep and I just can’t get around it 🙁 xx
I try to have a bath before bed using some lovely lavender scented goodies and sometimes listen to a relaxation cd x
Thanks so much for your suggestions. I don’t actually have a bath (only a shower) so I can’t do the bath, which is rubbish as I love baths! xx
Oh my god! since last week I have had sleeplessness.. I slept at 3 am and got up at 12 pm and yeah.. my skin is mess.. I am harnessing tow red giants on my cheek :(:( will keep checking this post to see if we find a solution..
It’s awful isn’t it? My sleeping has always been a bit all over the place but I’ve never struggled to actually stay asleep! Not fun xx
Try a hot drink before bed, something like hot chocolate or warm milk and try to limit your time on the computer/watching TV right before you sleep.
Thanks for your idea; I bought some lovely hot chocolate so I’m going to give that a try tonight! xx
I’ve started going to bed later (even if I have to get up early: painful the first times but then I got used to it), and now if I’m really tired and go to bed earlier that doesn’t happen anymore…
I tried that last night; for some reason I always wake between 3-4 and then I’m up no matter what time I go to bed. It’s very frustrating xx
Have you tried Progress Muscle Relaxation? They have the audio on YouTube. It helps to relax you which might help your body stay asleep. I work loads so I do it if I’m super stressed or just can’t chill out! X
Thanks lovely, I’ll definitely have a look and see what that’s like; I’ve been trying some hypnotherapy audio but it hasn’t had much impact so far xx
