Aveda have come up with a cracking idea for those of struggling with hair care issues during the various lockdowns of 2020. The Aveda Hair and Scalp Check is an online questionnaire that works out all the things your hair needs, such as products and treatments, based on a series of questions, then if you’re unsure of anything or have any queries, you can arrange an online chat with one of the Aveda experts to talk these through.
It’s interesting that a lot of people have reported hair care problems and changes during the pandemic, which could be caused by a number of things (for me it was my health – I lost quite a bit of hair) but it’s a double whammy that we can’t go and see a specialist to assist us in addressing our concerns, so the Aveda Hair and Scalp Check, whilst not the same as seeing someone face to face, definitely provides a good bridge for the interim.
I was given the opportunity to try some of the products I was recommended through the online check, and as my main focus at the moment is dealing with the repercussions of hair loss, the suggestions for me were a mix of products for hair loss and volume, starting with the Invati Advanced Exfoliating Shampoo and Thickening Conditioner, which are both designed to strength hair and reduce hair loss.
These are hardy hair products that really do feel like they are adding strength from the first wash. Hair feels immediately thicker, although I found them a little drying, but I think that is mostly because I’m leaning towards products that leave my hair feeling super silky as, in my mind, silky hair is less likely to snag and break. I love the concept of the Invati range as I feel like there are not enough everyday products designed for helping with hair loss, which doesn’t make sense considering it’s a particularly common issue.
My favourite of the four products I received is the Botanical Repair Strengthening Leave-in Treatment, which promises to “strengthen and help protect hair from the inside out” and it really does feel as if it does exactly that – it also protects hair from heat damage, so it’s very much one of those products that provide a number of benefits without leaving any residue.
The final product is the Thickening Tonic, which already has a cult following and for good reason, as if you want your hair to look and feel dramatically thicker, this is the way to go! It makes a very noticeable difference to my fine flat hair, and this is a product I would save for special occasions (or, indeed, anytime I leave the house…) as it’s a dramatic effect that’s totally wasted on me when I mostly just sit around in my lounge wear with my hair in a ponytail.
