Face Theory Blushers

I think I’m probably in the minority, as I’m starting my Face Theory journey (how cheesy does that sound?) by trying their makeup first, whereas most people are familiar with their amazing skincare line, so it’s kind of exciting starting my experience of the brand with a blank canvas and no preconceptions based on their skincare…I also do have some lovely skincare bits including some amazing moisturisers that I deliberately didn’t start on until I’d tried the makeup for the reasons mentioned above.

I was sent a lovely delivery (check out what I got on my IG feed here) of all the makeup launches and I thought I’d kick off my reviews with a look at the Blushers, as I do love a good blush, particularly a cream one…although these are technically a gel formula, I feel they sit happily under the cream blush umbrella.  There are four shades (so far) and they have no names, just numbers, which to be honest I quite like.

Shade 1 is a pale peach, shade 2 is a pinky coral, shade 3 is an orange-leaning red and shade 4 is a mid-toned brown.  Obviously, like most cream blushers, these shades look absolutely frickin’ terrifying right out of the tube, but thankfully they blend down beautifully, and actually, other than shade 4, I was surprised by how wearable they all are – shade 4 is just not a shade I can make work as I am very, very pale, but I can see this working on other skin tones, and maybe even working as a contour shade for some.

My favourite of the two are shades 1 and 2, as these are both very flattering shades that give a pop of warmth and colour.  Shade 1 is the perfect, barely there hint of blush, that just lightly lifts my pale complexion and puts a bit of a life back in when I’m looking knackered.  It’s one of those lovely shades that just flatters my skin tone really well, so great for anyone who’s very pale, but I think once you get beyond the paler side of the spectrum you might struggle to make this work.

Shade 2 is a bit like a deeper, slightly more dense version of shade 1.  It’s equally wearable but definitely gives more of a hit of colour, so probably the most ‘suits all’ shade out of the four.  I put off trying shade 3 for a while as I thought it would just clash with my skin, since I’m supposed to avoid anything too red in a blush format as I have red acne scars, but this worked really well and gave a pretty flush, akin to the look you get after a brisk walk on a chilly afternoon.

The packaging is far from ideal and if you’re like me, you’ll probably get it everywhere, but I just love these types of tubes as they make me feel ever so arty, plus you can definitely squeeze every last bit out of the tube.  I also really like the formula as it’s lightweight, easy to blend and surprisingly long lasting – you can use this with a brush or your fingers to get a really nice finish; I rarely choose fingers over brushes when it comes to makeup, but I think cream blushers are the exception as you can get such a lovely finish with a finger application.
