I can say with confidence that this is pretty much my belated scent of the summer, as I am totally, head-over-heels in love with it. I’m having some seriously wacky reactions to smells for the last part of my pregnancy, the result being that there are certain scents I just want to cover myself in; fresh concrete is an example of one of the oddities, but this amazing perfume from Chloe, Roses de Chloe Eau de Toilette, is a much better option that I think most people are comfortable with me over-spraying!
Interestingly, Roses de Chloe isn’t my usual type of scent as it doesn’t contain either of the two notes I always seek out: Jasmine and/or Vanilla, but it’s still such a dreamy, feminine scent that thankfully doesn’t scream “bouquet of roses” as the name suggests. There’s definitely a rose scent there, but it really isn’t dominant and instead the finish is sweet, pretty, girly, yet understated, grown-up and without a trace of sickliness; I’m not kidding when I say that I layer this up and spray it a good 4 or 5 times before heading out the door.
The top note is bergamot, the base notes are amber and musk, and the heart notes are rose and magnolia. I’m quite impressed that a fragrance with “roses” in the title only has it in the heart notes as I usually find that such notes tend to be placed in either the top or base notes too, to reinforce the dominant scent. I think this is why this fragrance really gets me going, as there’s the subtle hint of rose without any overpowering at all. The musk, for me, is the most dominant scent, but it’s lifted away from anything too antiquated with the fresh floral notes of the magnolia and rose, yet the amber keeps it solid and holds the florals together whilst stopping them from heading off into pot-pourri territory. Total and utter love for the prettiness of both the fragrance and the packaging (which beautifully compliments the fragrance by being extremely feminine yet perfectly sophisticated) which is available now. I was sent mine by Bliss London who offer a gigantic range of beauty as well as fragrance products with some really good deals to be found – just make sure you have some time to have a good browse! You can save around a tenner off the RRP for both sizes of the Chloe Roses de Chloe EDT; the 50ml retails for £42.64, whilst the 75ml (pictured) retails for 52.48.
