A while ago I received a little package of new Bourjois goodies, and I’ll happily admit that this Java Rice Powder was the one I was least excited about.  I don’t really sparkle and it looked rather sparkly, plus I couldn’t really see it fitting into my make-up routine; was it supposed to be a highlighter? Or a setting powder? Or just an illuminator? Eventually I thought I should give it the benefit of the doubt and see what it’s all about, and ever since then I’ve used it every single day bar two, both of which I was told I looked “a bit tired” (thanks mum), so it definitely does something.

the Bourjois Java Rice Powder is a bit of a heritage piece, as it’s been released to mark the 150th Anniversary of the brand.  The reason this particular product was chosen is due to how successful it was during it’s first release, many moons ago, and it’s just been ever-so-slightly modernised to fit with today’s make-up demands, but the packaging is gloriously antiquated and cute, in very typical Bourjois style.   It comes in a shaker-style pot that you can close up with a spin of the internal cover.  I tend to get a bit carried away with this and apply it all over my face, but it would work just as well for a subtle bit of highlighting.

It’s one of those “bonne mine” products that doesn’t scream make-up in any way, rather it just adds a certain something to your face; it’s a healthy glow and a bit of a “lit-from-within” finish that is extremely effective.  To give you an idea, I’d say equal products on the market are things like Chanel Les Beiges (my review is here – although keep in mind that I bought one shade or so darker to add a bit of colour too) or Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick.  Both of these are very good at adding a very subtle, healthy glow which is exactly what the Bourjois Java Rice Powder does too.  It’s a total winner for me, and at £9.99 it’s also a fraction of the cost of the Chanel and BB products, yet it definitely stands it own against it’s more expensive competitors.  More info can be found on the Bourjois site, and it’s available in all the usual Bourjois stockists such as Boots here.
