We all know how I feel about masks; I’m obsessed, I use a mask at least a couple of times a week and I really, really love them. Montagne Jeunesse have an absolutely massive collection of mask sachets including some great peel-off options, and as I’d recently had a clear-up and come across a few of them that included this Black Seaweed Peel-Off Mask, and as I hadn’t tried a peel-off for a while, I figured now was a good time.
Montagne Jeunesse masks have a bit of a reputation as they can often be quite harsh and leave sensitive skin very reactive. I think with all masks it’s a good idea to patch test beforehand, but that’s especially important with this range as I’ve read about some truly horrid reactions. Thankfully I’ve yet to have that problem, but I do find their masks pretty potent so I was braced for a bit of a tough clean. However, I was quite surprised that this was actually a lot more gentle than anticipated.
It’s a bit unclear what the intention of this mask is, other than deep-cleaning which I suppose is quite typical of seaweed masks. As you can see, it’s black and tar-like and it spreads on the face like a thick, gloopy cream which then dries down to a clay finish. Then you peel it off – anyone who doesn’t enjoy peeling off a face mask is just weird. Or lying. This peeled off really well in almost one go, although there was a slight ashy residue that needed to be removed afterwards, although that didn’t take much effort at all. I definitely like this mask as skin felt a lot clearer and smoother, yet interestingly it didn’t feel dry or tight. Therefore I’d recommend this as a good cleansing mask for anyone who’s prone to dryness as this shouldn’t exacerbate the problem at all. It’s a cheap and cheery quid (£1) here – link.

Sadly I am one of those people that have a fairly strong reaction to madam J masques- which is a shame as Iove a masque & chill and it’s nice to sometimes have something different
Love the Ormmizvea (spelling??) black masque- it did bring rather a lot of impurities to the surface a few days later, leaving me with some huge spots! But the payoff was worth it x
