I much prefer it when a brand’s seasonal release contains a couple of key items that will rev-up your already existing make-up kit and get it summer ready. This approach is fuss-free, kind to wallets and thankfully what Smashbox have done with their Summer 2013 collection, which consists of two new releases; an obscenely covetable and obsession-worthy palette for eyes and a collection of four juicy summer shades of lipgloss.
Smashbox Heat Wave Lip Gloss set is a summer kit for the lips. All four shades are easy to wear yet extremely summery and make for a beautifully seasonal edit. There’s only one shade I’m not sure on (can you guess which one?) which for me – someone extremely difficult to please when it comes to lip colours – is saying something.
The four shades are:
Copper Remix – a gentle, shimmering bronze shade.
Electric Orange – A surprisingly wearable hit of gentle orange; if you’ve been wanting to try an orange lip but fear it won’t suit then this is the shade for you.
Fuschia Flash – a bright pink with heavy red tones.
VIP Pink – a gentle, summery, suits-all pink.
Copper Remix is not for me, and I won’t get much use out of it, but VIP Pink and Electric Orange are such lovely shades that will work with most make-up looks and the best part about this kit is that you can mix and match to create your own bespoke shades, so for example, a blend of VIP Pink and Electric Orange will create a tailor-made coral shade that you can adjust until you’re happy with it.
The applicator’s quite interesting as the d0e-foot is very large which I thought would be a hindrance, but it’s actually been designed to flow better with the contours of your lips and that does appear to be the case. The Smashbox Heat Wave Lip Gloss Set is available now priced at £22.50.
Next up we have the Heat Wave Eye Shadow Palette which I want so, so bayad that it hurts a little. I’m currently trying to justify purchasing it even though I have a wad of eyeshadow palettes to make my way through, but I’m not joking when I say that I can’t stop thinking about it! My current justification is that I deserve a treat, having cut right down on my spending of late and also that I took such rubbish shots at the event that it’s imperative that I do this palette justice by taking better shots in my photo box. Do you see? I’m getting there!
The palette consists of ten fantastic wet or dry shades and one double-ended brush. At the event, I had a selection of the bottom row applied with the main focus being the taupe/purple shade (bottom row, second from right) which is just so stunning that I’ve been trying to find a suitable dupe for it online but I can’t. ‘Tis mucho frustrating. There’s a shade for everyone included but what I love is that there are a few new spins on old classics that keep this palette fresh and modern and stop it being too generic. Smashbox Heat Wave Eye Shadow Palette is available now priced at £36.
There we have it, a beauty of a collection from Smashbox that will instantly update your current make-up collection to ensure it’s seasonal and summery.
