There was a time when mascara was my ultimate beauty product and the one thing I couldn’t say “no” to; it was my desert island product and no matter how much make-up I had on, if I wasn’t wearing mascara then I felt naked. However, recently I’ve started suffering from mascara fatigue and I think it’s down to the fact that my pregnancy ruined my lashes. I used to have long, relatively thick and easy to curl lashes but now there’s not much to write home about. I’m not hugely bothered by this, but it has left me less excited about mascara in general which is a bit of a shame!
I’ve been trying out the Code VLM (the VLM standing for Volumising Lengthening Mascara) which is a popular cult product of which I’m yet to find a bad review. It’s a fibre-based product designed to fulfill a wealth of mascara needs such as length, lift and volume without smudging or flaking.
For me, it has delivered on its promises whilst also being extremely easy to remove too – something I was worried about as I figured it might be a struggle. It’s a buildable formula that allows for many coats of mascara without clumping, but I’m not someone who ever bothers adding more than a single coat so I can’t comment on how well it delivers in that respect.
The brush is a conical shape that allows you to use the thinner end to get into the tricky little lashes at the inner corners, whilst using the fatter end to pull the product through the main lashes. I was instructed to wiggle the wand into the roots before rolling it outwards. However, being my usual cack-handed self, I found this approach resulted in me getting it all over the upper lid, so I instead stuck to my more typical application method.
I can’t say I’m overly excited about this mascara, but I fear this is mainly due to my aforementioned mascara fatigue as there really is no reason for me not to like it, yet I’m lacking enthusiasm for it. I think with every new mascara I hope for big, long luscious lashes which of course is fairly unrealistic, especially since my pregnancy.
In conclusion, I’d recommend this mascara if you like an easy-to-use, every day mascara that delivers on its claims. I’d say this offers more length than volume (but I always find that, even with volumising mascaras!) but most importantly it lasts really well and doesn’t smudge on me. As someone who can bring out a smudge in the most smudge-proof mascaras, this alone is impressive, so if you’ve been on the hunt for a mascara that doesn’t smudge but is also easy to remove then the Code VLM Volumising Lengthening Mascara is well worth checking out for £19.95 here – link.
