I think every person who’s ever dabbled in beauty, from the skincare non-committers to the hardcore beauty-junkies, will be familiar with the cult product that is Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. Everyone knows the familiar yellow bottle and even though there are different sizes and a gel version, the formulation has stayed the same since it was first created in the late 60’s…UNTIL NOW (Dun, dun, duuuun).
It’s taken formulating dermatologists 6.5 years to reformulate (I’m assuming because of all the science and whatnot, not because they were distracted by Homeland) and now Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion has become Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+. It’s a small difference to the name, but a big difference to the formulation, as rather than completely redo the ingredients and risk riling lots of loyal, long-term fans, the scientist bods have established a couple of small tweaks that they feel give it enough of an improvement without jeopardising it’s main appeal, which is that it’s a good, solid, everyday moisturiser, free from bells and whistles, and I’m so glad to see that is still the case.
I won’t bore you with the press release sciencey stuff, but instead tell you that the two main updates are the addition of a Barrier Strengthening Complex (because “you can have the best moisturiser in the world but if your barrier is not intact – moisture evaporates”) double the moisturisation levels to increase skin hydration, yet the formula is still thankfully oil-free. So that’s all the info covered, now on to my thoughts.
I didn’t get on at all with the original formula as I found it greasy and too heavy for my skin; yet the gel version was (and still is) one of my go-to moisturisers when my skincare routine needs to be pulled right back to give my skin a chance to settle – it really is awesome for that – and I’ve mentioned it a few times on the blog. It’s difficult to tell if it’s the fact that my skin is older and hormonal from growing Little Man, or if it really is the new formulation, but I absolutely love the + version. It’s silky, creamy, nourishing, soothing and makes for a fantastic make-up primer as well as a moisturiser. Used at night it’s still present the following morning and used in the morning it’s still doing it’s job the following night, so it absolutely delivers on its promises. It also manages to avoid feeling greasy and instead leaves skin with the perfect level of hydration. Seriously, *seriously* impressed! The new formula arrives on the 12th July 2013 and will be £17 for 5oml and £28 for 125ml, or £29.50 if you want a pump with your 125ml bottle.

Hello!
Thank you for sharing this,
sounds very interesting. I have oily shining skin
so this maybe would work great on me.. I need to try this
one day.
lot of greetings,
eva
the lotion isn’t oil free, only the gel is oil free xx
Thanks so much for your comment Kelsey! The press release states that it’s oil-free so maybe it’s the new formula? Or did you mean the new formula? Will double check with the PRs next week xx
I use the gel version of the product. Had a few hits and misses for my oily, acne-prone, sensitive skin before I chanced on this miracle worker. Its a little more expensive than other products but then it does exactly what it claims. It gently hydrates your skin without any irritation.
